The Friends

The Friends of St Eadburgha's was established in 1969 as a charity to assist in the care and preservation of the Church and Churchyard.

We currently have a board of 8 Trustees and we have 130 Friends, but are keen to try and grow our community of supporters to 200.

Many of our Friends are not necessarily religious, but simply appreciate St Eadburgha’s for the stunning architecture, fascinating history and its peaceful atmosphere.

Financial support

To meet the ongoing needs, most Friends contribute funding by way of a monthly or annual standing order, or one off donation. Some also leave a lasting legacy by making a bequest in their will.

Visitors to the church can make a donation by tapping the card reader situated near the door inside the church.

We hold several fundraising concerts in the church during the year, so take a look at what's coming up as by purchasing a ticket you are also supporting our work.

Past projects have included contributing to the cost of new oak pews following the flood in 2007, purchasing a new organ in 2019 and conserving the rare 1641 Charles I Coat of Arms panel.

Practical support

The Friends also take on the weekly jobs required to maintain this beautiful building and its tranquil grounds for all to enjoy… such as cleaning, flower arranging, grounds maintenance and an array of jobs inside the church. We also do our best to maintain headstones in the graveyard, some of which are Grade II Listed, removing moss and ivy and strimming.

Our small team of volunteer cleaners, gardeners and flower arrangers give generously of their time to ensure that the Church and grounds are are well maintained.

We meet each Thursday morning from 10:30am.

We would love to see some new faces and are always looking for help from a few more willing volunteers. Many hands make light work. Just turn up with a pair of work gloves! We promise you a warm welcome.
